Rescue your newest family member and support your local shelter this June. Multnomah County Animal Services is a good place to start your search for a new cat for your family.
When thinking of adopting a cat there is a good checklist you should look over to make sure you and your family are truly ready for the commitment of a new feline family member. The tenth and final tip on this list is to make sure when giving away a cat as a gift that you include the recipient in the adoptio process. This step is critical to the importance of creating a good bond between the cat and its new owner or owners.
If you’re considering giving a cat as a gift, make sure the recipient is an active participant in the adoption process. Though well-meaning, the surprise kitty gift doesn’t allow for a “get-to know-one-another” period. Remember, adopting a cat isn’t like purchasing a household appliance or a piece of jewelry – this is a real living, breathing, and emotional being.
