We are continuing our series on steps to prepare your kids for adopting a new dog. If you are considering to adopt a new dog there are so many variables to consider, like breed and lifestyle. Kids make this process a little more complicated, as they tend to. Making sure your new family member is a match for everybody is incredibly important. One important thing to do when you are considering adopting a dog when you have kids is to make sure you have a conversation with them and maybe show them videos on how to behave around dogs to really drive the point home. Kids tend to be a bit rough with dogs and it’s important to teach them hoe to properly interact.

10. Use video examples

Pull up YouTube and watch videos of dogs and children with your child. Invite your child to discuss if they think the dog in the video is enjoying the activity that is taking place.

It can also be useful to show a child a bunch of different tasks that dogs can be taught. For this type of videos, check out Top Dog Tips YouTube channel where we publish regular videos on how to teach dogs many different commands, tricks and tasks.
